Young Toddler Program

(11 months-20 months) Ratio 1-4

As children approach young “toddler hood”, an age of many changes, their budding independence is exciting to them. They receive support from our teachers in this new level of independence. Children in this class are now feeding themselves and learning to care for themselves and their environment.

Sign language continues and teachers provide a verbal rich environment which assists the children in using words to describe their feelings and communicate with those around them. Objects and feelings are constantly named and actions are described so children can begin to form words or sentences. Children are empowered as they discover new ways to move their bodies, experience their environment and navigate through the world around them. What they can do for themselves safely, they are allowed to do. Sensory rich activities are plentiful in this classroom as children of this age need to experience their world using all five senses (tactile, olfactory, visual, auditory, and gustatory).

Toddler Montessori materials are utilized for fine motor development, color and shape recognition, and patterning. Various mediums of art are employed for children to experiment with. Choosing from a wide range of books to browse through is a big part of a young toddler’s day. Children are read to multiple times a day. Outdoor time is included in their daily schedule, rain or shine, at which time the children use various toddler play equipment for gross motor development.

Only full time schedule is available in this program. Young Toddlers may be dropped off between 7:00 am and 10:30 am.
